Bad Guys???
What are the “Bad Guys” that the boy and father mention every time they see a sign of civilization or people? I think it could be an evil monster that is created by the nuclear radiation mixing in with some sort of animal that made it smarter, stronger, and more vicious. It could also be a group of people that they are running from that have become wild and crazy for food and will find some at no mercy. Well one thing is for sure, they are running from something, and it is “bad”.

Well I agree that they are running away from something bad, but really we dont need to interpret what itis because shortly after the beginning of the novel they specify that the "bad guys" the dad constantly mentions to his son and why they run way from them is because they're cannibals. This is really interesting because the dad is paranoid about being found and his only priority is taking care of his son, therefore we can see he has no pitty for anyone. A good example is when they arrive at the beach and a man takes theyre stuff, when they finally catch up to him the dad makes him take all his clothes of and leaves him stranded in the middle of the road with nothing. But as i said i think this is all because of his own paranoia of everybody being a "bad guy". And really you can easily understand why he feels this way, because there is a part in the novel in which they go into a house in search for food and unknowingly they go inside a hidden door where they think theyre hiding food. But to their gruesome surprise they find a crowd of people being preserved like animals to be eaten later; some are even missing most of their limbs. In this part of the novel we can see the brutality and the extend to where these people will go to, to obtain "food"!
